another day another dollar.
again nothing to say regarding my project. by the time i had a sleep in (i wasn't going to make the dawn service so stayed asleep as long as possible), went to work from 1 till 5, then to a friends birthday thing followed by picking my wife up from work it is rather late.
at least i did something social (with real people, that i'm not related to), it has been a while.
while waiting for my wife to finish up i read a little of one of my new purchases. a '66 printed T3 workshop manual... it had a section on rebuilding clutch pressure plates which was most interesting as i have some NOS pressure plate rebuild kits but had never seen any info on what/why/how. to me it shows the changes in society. who now would bother to rebuild a pressure plate?
another thing that the manual brought home was how much i want a set of factory tools. i have spent ages trying to track down what happened to the factory tools when the local VW dealer closed down but no-one can tell me for certain. i've talked to several people who were at the clearing sale when the dealership closed down. the dealership had been out of vw's for 10 years by then. i picked up a box of NOS parts that came from that sale, but no one rememberes if the tools were sold then and if they were who they went to. i've got some more leads to follow yet so heres hoping, during the hunt i have found someone with a hazet assistant rip off, that i need to go back and pick up. i wish i knew if the dealers here used assistant tool trolley/boxes.
i'm still cranky at my father for the opportunity he blew. talking to a random stranger in a shop that sold model cars amongst other things, mentioned that his son was into vw's. the stranger pipes up that he had been a mechanic and still had all of his vw factory tools. dad said "gee my son would be love those" then said goodbye and walked out. grrrrr. mind you the hunt is fun as well. (i've got to keep telling myself that)
knowing the time and effort that my 1 factory tool saves, a box full of them must be a realy nice to have.
