not a lot of movement but more than has happened for a while.
my wife, while she may sometimes drive me insane, is so cool. her work was about to chuck out some giant stackable wire basket/shelf type thingies and a frame to wheel them around on, so she grabbed them for me so i now have some more storage in my shed. :)
it will make better use of some floor space by going higher than the dead blanket box that was there before. my shed is only 19' by 19' or there abouts and i have way way too much stuff to try and fit in it. well to be honest if i had the right storage it would be better but i still have several too many cars to fit in a 2 car sized garage (with easy car access only to one side). thankfully they are spread out about the place mainly out of the way. one in my grandparents back shed, two at my parients in sydney etc etc.
i finally moved my 1776 off my workbench where it has sat in pieces for something like 2 years. i stripped it to rebuild it but ended up cutting down a tree on my dog (it's a long story) so something like $2300 in vet bills later i had spent about what i had budgeted to rebuild the motor. (line bore, 8 dowel the crank, rings, bearings, new stock valve heads to replace the POS hemi cut ones, new rods and a bigger cam, balancing etc) it was to be my first motor build so i was realy excited by it.
the good thing about living in a (cold) dry climate is that apart from being dusty everything was fine even after 2 years on the bench. (mind you i had been keeping an eye on it to make sure it wasn't detiorating).
now that i have finally packed it away i will prob start working on it again :)
one thing i realized is god damn type 3's shit me. i stripped a type 3 motor a while ago and the bloody tinware is SO f'n bulky. the majority of the blanked box was just the tinware/fanhousings etc... being a hoarder i couldn't chuck it, as, well, what if i need it? plus i think that at least some of it is really early N model stuff that the type3 1500 guys get into. i need to call my friend who has an early type 3 and see if he wants it. it got stacked (just) in one shelf of the new racks. i really should have taken all of it out side and hit it with the gurney to get all of the dirt / crud / rats nest remnants off it but just couldn't be bothered. the main reason it had been in the blanket box in the first place was so i didn't have to look at it :) . having said that i think i will need to chuck a sheet over these racks to hide the mess.
even though i say type 3's shit me i'd still love a T34 ghia with a steel sunroof. i would even consider getting rid of my ragtop to get a good one and if you knew me that is saying something.
of course my shed looks worse now as i still haven't emptied the last crap out of the blanket bos and moved it so i can roll the racking in there. the racking is now just inside the doorway. my wife was really pleased to come out this evening to find the racks 3/4 full and was positivly stunned to see the majority of my bench cleared off. there is still a bonnet i need to find a home for blocking access to the center of the bench and various junk spread about it. well actually the shed is still a total pigsty but it is getting a little more ordered again.
OMG i have even started trying to sell some of my crap. it is a big step... it has made me realize that if i moved some of my excess shit i could have a few $ to put back into my cars. over the last 14 years (even if not that much happened for 5 or 6 in the middle there) i have accumulated a lot of stuff. it is ammusing, some of the stuff that was crap when i stored it is now actually worth something. aka beaten up oval front guards that are now harder to get full stop and i now know are (a) fairly easily repairable (b) are the early type with the flair at the running board and hence (c) are worth the effort of repairing = have some value. the only problem being the one perfect early front guard i have has less value to me as it is not correct for an earlier oval... off a 59 without the flair at the running board. not that i'll part with it at the moment.
tomorrow evening i should dig some more stuff out and advertise it.
