    Handbrake Modification
Posted on Sunday, 26 February 2017
One thing that is usually a dead giveaway that a kit is not the real deal is the handbrake location. On original cars the handbrake was located beneath the dashboard, not in the 'tunnel' between the seats. The tunnel profile itself was also a lot fla...

This was an Australian made kit manufactured by a company called 'Auto Styling' in Perth back in the 1980's. The kit has never been finished and has never seen the road, instead passing hands a couple of times until it ended up with me. Most of the hard work is done, including the addition of side impact bars and all of the parts to meet local safety requirements. The remaining work is mainly cosmetic.

I have since come across a couple of these kits which are pretty unique in that the sidelight mountings have a raised mounting making them stand vertical. I'm guessing that this was to meet the safety rules. There is a kit currently being manufactured here in South Australia which shares these features. I'm convinced it must be from the same molds as there are other shared features.

Being an 80's survivor it comes from a period when Porsche parts were a lot more affordable and so has a full set of original Lemmertz wheels and hub caps as well as a 911 steering wheel (check out the photos of the original brochure that I included for the trendy '80's styling). Obviously the steering wheel has to go and the wheels will get swapped out for a set of 'Emory Outlaw' wheels that I have.

I'm currently collecting the rest of the parts to get it roadworthy. My plan is to assemble it, use it for a while to iron out the bugs before stripping it down for paint. There's a few remedial things that I need to attend to that the PO's have not done to my liking (roll bars, door hinges, door handles, boot latch, speedo) but these are just cosmetic issues and things that I can easily fix as I go along.

Plans are for an stockish looking car with just a touch of outlaw.
