i had the weekend of vw hunting.
my vw weekend started a week or so ago when a customer at work gave me directions and drew me a mud map to a type 3 (1500 as he called it) out in the bush. i had planned to go and find it this weekend. (i have 3 day wekends every second one for anyone who cares, so tonight is my sunday night)
on friday i went to a work function at the pub... i normally don't drink but make an exception for work functions. while makng room for more beer i got talking to a guy... no i don't usually talk to strange men in public toilets... but i ended up giving my vw spiel... he said that he hd a vw that had been rolled that i could have if i wanted! i ended up coming out of the tiolet jumping up and down, much to the amusment of my colleuges. (i ended up being the one at the work do that makes a complete ass of thmselves, but hey, someone has to do it).
seeing some country
t
fast forward to sunday as sat i was in no state to go for an adventure. i dragged a friend with me (as well as harry). the instructions i were given were actually very good, but we ended up going down the wrong fire trail first go. tthen hans dropped his new i phone and we spent about half an hour looking for it amongst thigh high blade grass. we had seen some beautiful country, amazing gorges etc. we manned up and threw rocks down a crazy hiill side etc. the pig (early 90's pajero) actually got a little of a workout, getting bottemed out on the firetrails etc). thanfully we found the the phone and my friend suggested we keep looking even thought it was getting later.
as it turned out the instructions i was given were v.good, it was just that i had gotten over egar and turned in to soon. we ended up finding the type 3, it was notch back, but even before i saw it i knew that it wouldn't be pretty. the blackened tree trunks and lush regrowth gave me a vision of what i'd find. it was a late (i think) early shape car, but as they tend to, one or more bushfires had really left it worse for wear. rust holes in the roof were just a start. i did pull the numberplate lighthousing off, and considered grabbing the front bumper but couldn't really be assed bush bashing back to the car to get the hacksaw. it needed work and it looked like had some bad rust coming up in one spot.
it was so good getting out of town and seeing a new bit of the world
all in all it was virtually pointless as a car hunt, but it was a great adventure and harry loved it as well.
today i went to vsit the guy i met in the toilet (that sounds a little suss). it turns out the car is on his property out of town and has been well picked over, but i'll head out in a few weekends to check it out then.
it was very unsatisfying as far as cars go but lots of fun anyway. hunting opefully my next trip will be more successful.
btw mick, lewis is due in late may but i think that he'll be born earlier than that.
