IKEA eat your heart out
Well, things are progressing along at a rather nice pace. The past week or so was spent at home tidying stuff up in readyness for the imminent arrival of the garage, I moved the existing garden shed, and all of it's contents, I made a new gate for the driveway and added an automatic closer thingymajig to it so we don't have to get out of the car to open and close it (the gate - not the shed), cleared the pile of lumber from the driveway, tidied my tools up that were scattered around the garage from various half baked projects and TOOK DELIVERY OF THE GARAGE.
YAY!!
So this is the garage. It comes on the back of a lorry, manned by a guy who nearly takes down your power lines with the crane when unloading it into your front garden. You then have to unpack everything and walk it round the back of the house bit by bit because the lorry driver swears blind the lorry will not fit down the drive - even though you had a sperate delivery for something else the day before that came on a bigger lorry and fitted just fine (well after the power lines nearly coming down I'm glad he didn't attempt to reverse up the driveway).
Fortunately - I avoided walking everything to the back of the house, by loading the trusty Land Rover up until I heard a creaking and groaning noise (This is a feature of early Land Rovers - a special device emits a warning tone when the ancient roof rack and home made rear ladder hoop reach payload). I then dove very slowly around the back of the house and dumped it there in readyness for the assembly party.
The assembly party involves some mates, copious beer, a BBQ and lots of cursing, we recently erected a mates garage - very similar to this one. hopefully this time we will know what we're doing :) It's much like a massive IKEA kit - except that you don't get a free spanner to assembl it with.
This will be my next project which I will start next week.
I also have plans a cooking to start up a 36hp challenge here in Australia. This event is currently held in the USA at Bonneville, and is basically a salt flat racing club based around the 36HP VW engine. I've been chatting to the events organiser who is keen to get an Australian event together, and I just need to speak to the DLRA to arrange how this can be run. I will keep you posted on the progress.
If anyone is interested in participating in the 36hp challenge, please feel free to either message, or preferably join up the Saltflat Racers group here on Vdubber - http://www.vdubber.com/groups/entry/Saltflat-Racers where you can use the forum and gallery to discuss. I will add more information as it becomes available.
Mick.
