depressingly little happened for a day off.

i gave my one set of moderatly interesting rims a once over with the hose and a stiff brush. i wish someone could give me a definate answer as to who actually made them etc. i believe that they were made by "Neils" in the mid 80's but the name came from an add on e.bay that included a 4 by 130 set. some of the guys other info was a bit questionable so nfi if this is thier proper brand.

i really think that you'd have to be driving a porsche for the looks if you fitted these to your car in the mid 80's, they weigh a ton. you would have to by snorting a heap of coke to think that these would improve the handling of your car.

to be honest i think that they would look ok on the right car, they look kind of "tough" for want of a better expression... a 914 with boxflares or maybe a 944 in black or metalic steel blue. anything else i'm not so sure on. even then a black 944 with these would look a bit JPS. (john player speciel, they sponsered some BMW's amongst others in touring cars in the mid 80's, they were black cars with gold wheels and gold signwriting)

btw that is a before pic, they don't look much better now but they do look better. i still have to get the tyre off the last rim, one side is off, but the tyre is so rusted to the rim that i can't get it to budge. gave it a good dose of lanox so hopefully that will help, if not i'll have to take it to a tyre shop, i should have done that years ago but i'm a bit of a tight ass.

i also pulled out a bag of linkage parts i eyespyed when i tidied up the shed a few days back. they came off my 71 142S in the mid 90's when i swapped from twin strombergs to twin SU's. that car was such a POS. i'd imagine that a good one would be really nice to drive but this one was a rusty beaten up shitbox.i had grabbed them from my parts shed parients at some stage to play with.

 a quick check showed that most of the arms etc were a perfect fit onto a 28PCI carb. perfect for the early twin carb kit i'd like to build. well maybe not perfect, but hopefully useful.a few minutes gave them a quick clean, then inside for a quick play around to see if i was in luck.

obviously i would need to get a second long shaft and mount bracket plus a suitable bit of pipe to slip them into and fill the gap in the middle.

so far no miracle cure has jumped out but with a little luck i might be able to sort something out. the biggest hurdle will be that the linkage arm legnth on the shaft is different to the carb arm legnth. plus i think that both are different to the stock throttle arm legnth. aka it will involve a bit of thinking and maths to work it all out.

in the sketches etc that i had drawn i had though of using the stock arm/s on the cross shaft (twist shaft style linkage) and the same legnth arms on both the carb end of the shaft and the throttle shaft itself so that there i knew that the same movement at the accelerator pedal would equal the same opening of the throttle shaft be it stock single carb or my twin carb kit.

to be honest these linkage parts are past thier used by date, but so was the car they came off. they wouldn't be much good for the finished linkages, still it is a good exercise and if i could get it to work all i would have to do is look for a decent used set.

time to have another play and see if i have a lightbulb moment.
