This VW Dune Buggy project has been kicking around the Theonomics shop for awhile now, and it's time to build it. This is the chassis from a 1973 Volkswagen beetle. the engine is a rebuilt 1600cc Dual Port. I got this VW chassis from the Bradley GT 2 kitcar that I recently turned into a 4x4 offroader(link below). I decided That a good option would be to build a VW dune buggy using all the left over parts. The chassis was cut and shortened 22 inches. I thought it would be a good idea to build...
I thought it would be a good idea to build a custom roll cage, because we will likely be rolling this thing! This will have a custom made windshield added which was cut from another windshield. Most of the parts are from the original VW Beetle, but I did make some additions like the 8th inch diamond plate aluminum used for floors and side panels, a custom stainless steel battery box, some heavy duty military dodge headlights, International Harvester tail lights, and a bunch of other things here and there.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy seeing it all come together.
Here is what I did to the original kitcar body!
