New Look
Welcome to the new look T-34 site.
It's been some time since I built the site in it's previous guise (December 2004 in fact!), so I decided it was about time to have a makeover. With over 40,000 hits to the site since it first started back in 1999 and about half of those since the last site upgrade, I guessed some people would probably be bored with the way it looked, plus now the Ghia is actually seeing some time spent on it, the site content is getting added to more frequently.
Most of the information available on the previous site has been carried over, a few articles have been dropped, some have even been updated, plus I have added all of the progress reports on the restoration that I could find from the previous websites - just for prosperity's sake. The Gallery has been migrated across so all of the pictures can still be found - although it is now known as the 'Media Library' as it can now contain most types of files, not just pictures.
New Features
With the new site, there are some new features, one of them is the RSS news feed. The RSS feed supports RSS 2.0 news-readers and works with both Firefox and IE7. For those of you who dont know - an RSS news feed is an XML file consisting of headline information about the site. This file can be read by newsreaders (special software designed to read and display RSS feeds), most new generation Web-Browsers and even be displayed as a screen saver on your new MacBook. When you see the orange RSS Feed icon in your web browser (Shown on the right), you can click it and add a 'Live Bookmark' to your browser. When you hover over this bookmark a list showing all of the headlines from the site will be shown - This way you can be kept up to date with the latest goings on without actually having to visit the site. Cool huh!
Like the site? Why not have your own - for FREE!!
You might have noticed that the 'This Website is T-34 Powered' link is no longer to be found at the bottom of the page, the reason for this is that I have developed the code from the previous T-34 site into a complete Content Management Package. Whilst not officially released yet, it will be available to use for free under the GNU-GPL Software License. The official name is 'DM CMS'. The name 'DeeEmm', is a psudonym that I use for programming, it is the phonetic spelling of the letters of my nickname (DM) which is of course a secret to those who don't know me personally ;) The code will be available from http://www.deeemm.com - The link is also in the page footer. If you are interested in using DMCMS for your site you can download the current beta version and take it for a test drive. If a beta version is not for you, hold tight as a release version shouldn't be too far away. Along with the release version I will set up a demonstration site so that you can test drive DMCMS online for yourself.
