Received an update on the bus's progress. It's really coming along now. The gaps on the cargo doors are spot on which when you consider how trashed the roof and that side of the bus was is a real feat. Cooper has really outdone himself....

  • Picked up a pair of early headlights today. These are date coded January '57 so a little newer than my bus but correct for busses from 53-60 so a good score and a reasonable price too. Big thanks to @Choco for putting me on to these. One bulb holder is missing but nothing that cannot be easily sourced.

I also found a good source for glass rear lenses - a fella from Germany who appears to have a whole bunch of rare and hard-to-get lenses for German cars. He has red third brake light lenses...

I also found a good source for glass rear lenses - a fella from Germany who appears to have a whole bunch of rare and hard-to-get lenses for German cars. He has red third brake light lenses and stop / tail light lenses in stock. Will have to replace the cracked ones that I have at some point.

  • Went down to visit the bus at the shop today now that its back from the blasters. The bus is having the tinworm fixed up by Cooper Pratt. He's cut the sills out and most of the front cab and has started collecting the necessary panels to make it solid again. He also spent some time reshaping the rear corners which had been pretty bashed around.

Overall the bus is not too bad, no real surprises, just the usual rot in the usual places. The cargo area floor is salvageable albeit a little...

Overall the bus is not too bad, no real surprises, just the usual rot in the usual places. The cargo area floor is salvageable albeit a little bashed up, which is good. It's come up surprisingly well from the blasting, I was almost expecting it to dissolve but it's solid enough to leave as-is with some small areas to repair.

I'm pretty stoked to see some progress on the bus after its sat in my driveway unloved for the past 8 years. Things are finally starting to take shape, Who knows, it might even make it back on the road in 2021.

So it looks like I have finally found a driver side A-Pillar.

Just waiting for it to arrive. ‏ — feeling Stoked

  • Got a bunch of photos here. Not much progress recently unfortunately. Plans are to fix up the rust, retain as much of the original paint as possible and add the Joe Blow livery to the side. Of course it goes without saying that it will get fitted with a blown motor.

    DIY Cyclops light

    •   Sunday, 08 June 2014
Been getting a bit distracted by cyclops lights recently. Not that the bus is anywhere near ready for trinkets, still plenty of metalwork to do before its time to add jewellery. So completely sidetracked I decided to scratch that particular itch and ...

A nip and tuck and a bit of a nose job

With the long Easter weekend I managed to get a few extra hours in on the bus. Having already cut off the front panel and one dogleg, and made up an A-Pillar repair I decided to carry on with the front end and take a look at the dented front panel. ...

    DIY A pillar repairs
    •   Bus
    •   Saturday, 19 April 2014
Spent some time today making up the repair panels for the bottom of the passenger side A pillar. Fortunately there was enough of the original left for me to take some measurements from. The repair panels are in three sections - two sections form the ...

Managed to get out and do a bit more work on the bus today, decided to carry on sorting out the lower nose inner panel. The panel that I acquired unfortunately turned out to be for a left hand drive bus, which meant that to get it to fit I needed to ...

    DIY Cab Floors
    •   Bus
    •   Sunday, 13 April 2014
With the cab floor on the '55 looking like it needs replacing I decided to see if I could avoid having to buy a full repair panel by using the floor from a front cut that I have stored for my 15 window project. I have the front cut to provide a dashb...

Those of you who know me will also know that I sell supercharger kits under the moniker 'Joe Blow'. A while back I decided that to promote the kits I would put together a logo'd rat panel van - with nice Joe Blow powered motor. Orignally I was after ...
